Te previous winners of this Award – IBM Fellow and NAE Member Dr Roger R. Schmidt (2009), Uptime Institute founder Ken Brill (2008) and Don Beaty (ASHRAE/DLB Associates) (2007) – are all individuals distinguished by extensive service to the data center industry through publication, education, developing innovation and active involvement with data center operations on a global level. Peter Gross leads strategic technology planning and business development as Vice President and Managing Partner for HP’s Technology Consulting. His ground- breaking initiatives in the past two years of his career alone include HP’s Multi Tiered Hybrid Data Center, and more recently HP’s Flexible DC, which is set to change the way the industry designs and builds data centers.


He has had a tremendous influence on the industry over the last three decades. Since the infancy of the data center industry he has become a key thought leader – providing best practice consultancy to the highest levels of US government, organizational and corporate institutions on critical facilities and future power and cooling strategies.


Peter has published numerous technical papers in the field and is a frequent speaker at international events. He has more than 25 years’ experience in engineering and design of power systems as applied to data centers, trading floors, command and control centers and telecommunication and broadcasting facilities.


He played a pivotal role in the rapid growth of EYP MCF’s business since its founding in 1997, leading to its acquisition by HP in 2007. He is known for his close client relationships, assuring exceptional quality consulting and engineering services.


A Senior IEEE Member and a Registered Professional Engineer in CA, AZ and NY, Peter co-founded the Critical Power Coalition. Peter graduated from the Polytechnical Institute of Bucharest, Romania with a degree in electrical engineering and received an MBA from California State University.
