delivery to the public. Its location has been chosen so that it can share dual power provision and generator capacity in place to operate the Mersey Tunnel and is located in a Grade II listed building that is the main ventilation shaft for the historic Queensway tunnel under the Mersey River

Te new Information Systems Services (ISS) Building is a four-storey development consisting of flexible office
space and a series of dedicated IT machine rooms, which include both air-cooled and water-cooled cabinets. Tis new facility provides a resilient, affordable, flexible facility to enable Lancaster University to perform a number of important IT services for the Campus and the wider community.
Hampshire County Council in partnership with Mace Limited Hampshire County Council required a new data center that could deliver increased
capacity, availability and efficiency in systems, utilization and administration, all within a reduced footprint. Te data center is an integral part of the Winchester HQ building which delivers heat and reclaim it during colder conditions when waste heat from the data center is used to precondition air entering the buildings reducing conventional heating systems.

Te Datacentre Transition Project was established by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to explore all possible options of hosting DWP’s IT services, along with replacing its current ageing data center. Several options were explored and a decision was made to extend the hosting contract with DWP’s existing provider while also incorporating a new data center.
Te project has delivered all financial/commercial milestones on time, to quality, and below budget while delivering to all service level agreements throughout the migration of infrastructure and data. Tese milestones ranged from securing the empty site in April 2008 to completing migration by November 2010.
Te data center project saw all devices and applications migrated in a 10-month window with minimal impact on service availability. Tis was despite the economic downturn requirement and exceptional demands for extended availability of IT services during evenings and weekends.
DWP has outsourced its IT. Another key reason for the project’s success was DWP’s decision to assure activities using the business-as-usual (BAU) processes for scheduling and change communications. Tis enabled the project to deliver ‘lean’ resources.
