NEW DATA CENTER EFFICIENCY ACCREDITATION LAUNCHED
The British IT industry association BCS (the Chartered Institute for IT – formerly British Computer Society) unveiled a new data center certifi cation program that awards organizations for following energy effi ciency best practices in their mission- critical facilities.
The accreditation is called Certifi ed Energy Effi ciency Data Center Award (CEEDA). BCS announced its launch at the fourth annual DatacenterDynamics Datacentre Leaders’ Awards ceremony in London.

The Data Center Group’s revenue was up 35%, compared to 21% reported by the PC Client Group, 27% revenue growth from other Intel architecture groups and 8% revenue growth from Atom microprocessors and chipsets. Intel’s full-year revenue was US$43.6bn, with net income of US$11.7bn. It reported US$3.4bn in profi t on US$11.5bn in revenue for the fourth quarter. It spent US$5.2bn in capital during 2010.

CEEDA will give data center operators an “independent accreditation and verifi able evidence that their data center is following energy effi ciency best practice”, the BCS said.
Qualifi ed assessors will verify energy effi ciency measures taken in every data center considered for the award and issue qualifying facilities one of three levels of CEEDA: Gold, Silver or Bronze.

Australian colocation entrant NEXTDC commenced trading on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) in December following an IPO that raised A$40m for the company. Trading as NXT, NEXTDC is Australia’s fi rst dedicated data center provider to be listed on ASX.
Silicon Valley-based storage- centric IT vendor NetApp has entered into an agreement to buy Akorri Networks. Akorri is a provider of data center management software focussed on performance capacity analytics for virtualized and shared IT infrastructures. The acquisition is a way for NetApp to win more business in the market for solutions that enable customer transition to virtualized and cloud computing environments.
Dutch colocation provider Interxion has commenced an initial public offering of 18.55m ordinary shares. The IPO is priced between US$11 and $13 per share. Interxion applied to have the shares listed on the New York

Chinese company Xinmao Group has pulled back on its attempt to enter the fi ber-optic cable market, dropping its bid for Dutch cable maker Draka. The move leaves Italian company Prysmian open to seal the deal with its €830m offer. Xinmao said it no longer found its offer feasible.
Oracle Korea and Sun
Microsystems Korea will merge this year following investigations by Korea’s Fair Trading Commission into the effect the tech giants’ merger would have on Korea’s server market. The Sun division is one of the last to be absorbed by Oracle, which was acquired Sun early last year.
Legrand North America, an electrical and digital building infrastructure solutions provider, has acquired Electrorack, a provider of data center and telecom cabinets, power and cooling products. The company is aiming to capitalize on its expectation of 10% annual growth rate in demand for cabinets and accessories in US.
APPOINTMENTS
The CEO of processor maker AMD has resigned. Dirk Meyer will be replaced by the company’s senior VP and CFO Thomas Seifert in the interim. Seifert will keep his CFO responsibilities and serve as CEO until the newly- formed CEO search committee fi nds a permanent replacement for Meyer, who is accredited with stablizing AMD and seeing AMD through its litigation settlement with Intel and delivering Fusion APUS to market.
