ADVERTORIAL HITACHI
MODULAR COOLING SOLUTION Hitachi has developed the refrigerant Natural Circulation system (NC system), saving energy by eliminating the need for a power source to drive operation.
NATURAL CIRCULATION – THE BESPOKE
THE TECHNOLOGY Hitachi’s NC system requires no pump or
compressor. The heat from the server vaporises the refrigerant, causing it to rise. When cooled, it condenses and falls. Utilising these rising and falling streams, the system circulates the refrigerant without an externally powered driving force.
NC RACK Half the width (300mm) of standard server racks, rack type air conditioners takes up far less space than conventional models, providing 22kW of cooling capacity. The warm air from the server is exhausted to the back of the rack where it is sucked in by the adjacent rack type air conditioner. It is cooled and vented to the front as a stream of chilled air, which the server then takes in creating a cooling cycle.
NC DOOR Rear door cooling units attach to the back of server racks to provide 10kW of cooling capacity. The air conditioner directly takes the
heat exhausted from the server and rejects it at optimal room conditions, allowing a high degree of server integration.
SCALABLE AND FLEXIBLE Easy integration to new and existing facilities provide customers with a tailor-made solution as Hitachi recognises the necessity for bespoke answers to data centre needs.
GREEN DATA SYSTEM (GDS) Hitachi delivered and installed the NC system at GDS in Deventer, Netherlands in July. The modular based Hitachi NC cooling solution has been housed at this Deventer site, showcasing the first of the new technology available to customers throughout continental Europe.
Wessel Graatsma, CEO of Green Data Systems, said “Among all the solutions we looked at, the Natural Circulation system by Hitachi promised to fulfill all our requirements. Designed on demand to fit our needs, the solution was installed only a short
time ago, but we are already seeing positive results. The Natural Circulation system does exactly what Hitachi promised and we are looking forward for the first full evaluation once the system has been up and running for a longer period.”
