ADVERTORIAL THOR
STORE YOUR BUSINESS THE GREEN WAY Thor has a unique value proposition for far-sighted companies
RENEWABLE ENERGY
Responsible companies doing their part to build a sustainable world, need access to reliable and sanctioned power sources. For them Iceland is a strategic no-brainer. Affordable energy is plentiful in Iceland from clean renewable hydroelectric and geothermal energy sources. Economical and ecogological reasons make Thor Data Center the perfect partner for astute business leaders looking for a stable and secure data-storage option.
For technology companies carbon neutrality is not just a public relations issue anymore. With the ever-continuing evolution of corporate tax codes, leaving a large carbon footprint will ultimately become one of the major business expenses corporations must pay. Efficient energy usage represents a clear and present challenge for all modern business leaders. Partnering with Thor DC will set you apart from the rest, allowing you and your company to stay ahead of the curve, as energy shortages appear in major cities and areas all over the world.
MAKING ALL YOUR ENERGY USAGE CARBON NEUTRAL For technology companies, carbon neutrality is not just a public relations issue anymore. With the continuous evolution of corporate tax codes, leaving a large carbon footprint will ultimately become one of the major business expenses corporations must endure. Efficient energy usage represents a clear and present challenge for all modern business leaders. Partnering with Thor DC will set you apart from the rest, allowing you and your company to stay ahead of the curve, as energy shortages appear in major cities and areas all over the world.
LOWER ENERGY COST The energy prices in Iceland are both competitive and predictable. They are not dependent on external factors such as fluctuations in the price of oil or large shifts in consumer demand. The power costs are generally less than half the current average costs of power in Europe or North America. Furthermore, one must factor in the significant reduction in power consumption and additional financial savings resulting from the use of natural free cooling and lower ambient temperatures.
FLEXIBLE CAPACITY Thor uses a modular design – a relatively new data center technology which has quickly become the method of choice in the industry . This technology allows data centers to be composed of smaller units, so-called performance optimized datacenters (POD), which offer increased flexibility in scaling new ventures. Thor DC is ready for a rapid expansion of its current facilities.
SECURITY GUARANTEED You can trust us with your data. Customers have access to 24/7/365 NOC and Helpdesk. This includes telephone and email access for identification of faults with the assigned service. Additional support and professional IT services can be purchased. Thor Data Center is connected to the Icelandic power grid, which has one of the highest uptime in the world. Local data transfer is also very robust. There are three subsea cables from Iceland to Europe and US, which are run as a unified system. If one route is down, for any reason, traffic can be routed via the other links. Similarly, within Iceland, landing stations are physically remote from each other and are served by highly resilient fibre routes.
Roundtrip latency between Reykjavik and London is around 36ms - suitable for the vast majority of applications. Between Reykjavik and Halifax roundtrip latency is 66ms and Reykjavik to Copenhagen is 30ms, again suitable for the vast majority of applications. Thor Data Centre meets the requirements of being a Tier 3 classified data centre by fulfilling the criteria set forth by the Uptime Institute. Thor DC uses the ISO 27001 quality system.
HIGHLY SKILLED STAFF Thor DC was founded by a group of seasoned entrepreneurs with over 50 years combined experience in the telecommunications industry, having built high- speed data networks throughout Iceland, which is the second-largest island in Europe with 103,000 km2 of fairly rough land area. Highly skilled, experienced and multilingual IT professionals guarantee that customer demands are met both in terms of technology, data security and uptime.
AT THE FOREFRONT OF DATA-STORAGE TECHNOLOGY Thor DC uses secure POD modules for its data storage servers, which gives the customer the opportunity to have his own secure POD within the Data Center. The cooling technology is based on a natural free cooling developed by AST – Global in co-operation with Thor Data Center. This technology brings the data center down to very low PUE levels.
OPERA SOFTWARE PARTNERS WITH THOR DC Opera Software ASA, the Norwegian software company primarily known for its Opera family of web browsers was one of the first global companies to host its data with Thor DC. Opera Software currently has over 110 million users for its browsers across the world. Opera has several hosting centers globally and today runs a significant part of its electronic data traffic through Thor Data Center.
SINCE STARTING ITS OPERATIONS IN EARLY 2010 THOR DC IS NOW BELIEVED TO BE THE MOST ECO-FRIENDLY DATA CENTER IN THE WORLD.
