RESILIENCE Cloud based Infrastructure as a Service removes single points of failure. The failure of one node of the system has no impact on Information Availability and does not result in perceivable
downtime. And whether housed within multiple data centers or not what is unique about SunGard’s deployment is its basis on dedicated servers.
SCALABILITY SunGard Availability Services Cloud Computing enables organisations to quickly scale their operations. Provisioning of new resources and software applications can be delivered at a pace that does not hold back the rest of the business. This means that businesses do not need to pay for services which are not being utilised, unlike conventional computing where enough computing resources to meet growth requirements must be pre-purchased. FLEXIBILITY AND EFFICIENCY The service allows businesses to expand computing power as required and allows ‘bursts’ of resource to be utilised on an on-demand basis. Virtualisation has enabled organisations to increase the utilisation of the server environment, cloud computing takes this step further by taking over the management of server utilisation thus reducing ‘wasted’ compute power. It also allows very effective load balancing. Moving to an Infrastructure as a Service model allowed one extremely process heavy customer to reduce task time from four weeks to less than one.
SunGard’s model is built around flexibility while delivering greater efficiencies and lower costs. No customer will accept unpredictable and unplanned spikes in cost but Infrastructure as a Service allows for the flexible provision of extra compute power within planned costs.

Users fear that they do not necessarily know where their data is, and cannot be confident that similar rigour has been applied to the security of ALL of the multiple systems and networks aggregated into what they view as, their cloud.
Furthermore, there continue to be well-publicised instances of people and businesses not being able to access their data for hours on end due to a system failure somewhere within the cloud.
