3 Investment trends in APAC show accelerating growth
There is a strong trend emerging that indicates a shift in global investment patterns. Cities in the Asia Pacific region indicate growth rates into 2011 greater than 50% in sharp contrast to growth rates lower than 15% for major American and European markets.
And in contrast to the developed markets of the Northern Hemisphere which in the response to capital shortages has seen two years squeezing the maximum return from existing facilities, the emphasis in Asia Pacific, Middle East and Latin America is very much on new build.
While both Buenos Aires and Riyadh are expanding rapidly from small facility bases, both Sydney and Hong Kong are expanding from established facility profiles equivalent now to Milan or Dallas in terms of size.
With a number of large data center programs poised to start in Australia and Hong Kong being the epicentre for growth across Southern China and for markets adjacent to the South China Sea, both look set for growth higher than our observed global average.
Recent Asian data center investments
Cisco is working with Teliti Datacentres to build a $100m data center in Malaysia. The 120,000 sq ft [11,148 sq.m] facility will be located at the Enstek high-technology business park, on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. The initial development phase of the first 45,000 sq ft was targeted for completion by December 2011.
Verizon Business is opening 3,000sq m data center in Hong Kong as part of a £17bn investment program covering facilities, network and computing platforms.
T-Systems, is adding 15,000 sq ft to its 25,000 sq ft data center in Singapore giving the German telecoms firm its largest single Asian footprint. T-Systems operates nine DCs spread across cities in Singapore, Japan, China and Malaysia.
