IMMEDIATE SKILLS FROM DATA CENTER TRAINING

Currently rolling out across the US, these one- and three-day courses will provide trainees with immediate skills in energy efficiency, cooling systems and power costs, and employers with savings and flexibility

D

atacenter Training Services, a division of DatacenterDynamics, is now rolling out a

range of dedicated data center training courses across 10 major US hubs.

The Certified Data Center Design Professional (CDCDP™) qualification has been taken already by 1,720 trainees in 17 nations across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Many major international organisations have recognised the value of the qualification to their data center operations and have requested it be made available to their US workforces. Those organisations that have sent trainees include Bloomberg, Hewlett Packard, the United Nations, United States Postal Service, eBay and Bank of New York.

Despite current economic conditions there are still shortages of appropriately qualified personnel for data centers in a number of regions across the US and this will only increase as the economy picks up. There is also the need for personnel who are able to ‘think outside the box’ and who know more about their data center than their technical or operational skillset.

POWER, COOLING AND EFFICIENCY

As the data center industry matures and becomes more sophisticated, hardware costs become less of a challenge than consumption, and the ability to minimise energy usage is an increasingly valuable commodity.

To attain the CDCDP qualification, students must complete the three-day CDCD course in data center design, together with four one-day course modules in data center power, efficiency, cooling and management, and must pass the exams that are posted online.

THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL

The unit-based structure of the overall qualification allows flexibility for both students and employers. Students are able to study each unit at their own convenience over a period

The days of using cheap household fans are long gone and intelligent cooling systems are the order of the day. Unfortunately, training has not kept pace, so the full capacity of these sophisticated cooling systems has not been exploited fully.

Meanwhile, the high demand and lack of availability for such systems means that standby or duplicated systems are often required to safeguard business-critical data and applications.

To this end the CDCDP qualification brings together key areas of data center learning that have been independently certified to ensure qualifying individuals attain a recognised level of professionalism, skills and knowledge. Once qualified, trainees will have gained the capability to visualise, as well as have a good grasp of contemporary standards and best practice required to design, manage and maintain cutting-edge data centers.

of time and are given time to acquire an additional core qualification in CDCD.

The course is suitably balanced between theoretical understandings, practical applications and team exercises and delivered by professional trainers from CNet Training. All trainers have extensive working experience of the data center and related engineering and technical professions and are skilled in the learning delivery. 
