WHERE TO EAT Page 75

Frozen yogurt is but one of many luscious desserts at Yollipop in The Falls at Ocotillo. Among the menu items are fresh fruit smoothies, cupcakes, fruit bowls and the trendy green tea and tapioca beverage Boba.

“Most stores label themselves as frozen

yogurt and that really limits their options,” says Duc Nguyen, co-owner with Vamshi Damera. “We are a frozen treats store.” If a treat at Yollipop makes customers nos-

talgic for their youth, Nguyen has satisfied his goal. “Our store was born with the desire to bring

a little fun back to the frozen treat business. After all, you simply cannot say Yollipop with- out a happy and colorful childhood memory popping into your mind.” A resident of Ocotillo for more than 11

years, Nguyen has wanted to open a yogurt shop in The Falls for a long time. He launched

a shop in Ahwatukee while waiting for a spot to be available in Chandler and opened the Ocotillo doors November 2011. Customers will find options with no fat,

gluten and sugar at Yollipop, something Nguyen says many are thankful for. Kahlua, cotton candy, German chocolate cake, marsh- mallow, red velvet, pop mango and pistachio are some of the local favorites. Nguyen suggests trying the taro flavor,

which is a Hawaiian root with a clean distinc- tive flavor, or the New York cheesecake that he claims tastes like eating the actual cake when

Gilbert connection Tad, the tortoise, teaches children about

Tombstone in "Tales of a Tombstone Arizona Tortoise," a new picture book, created by hus- band and wife team, Tad and Heather Smith, owners of The Design Idea Graphics in Gilbert. The book celebrates Arizona’s storied past

through vibrant illustrations, alliteration and prose. Readers can relive the state's Wild West past as Tad, the tortoise, shares stories his rela- tives told him about the historic town of Tombstone including Ed Schieffelin’s discovery of silver, which led to the growth of the boom- ing mining town; stagecoach robberies; Nelly Cashman’s charitable works; and the friction between the Earp brothers and corrupt cowboys that led up to the shootout at the OK Corral. Heather says she spent nearly two years

researching Tombstone’s history, writing and revising the book, and reading it to children in elementary classrooms, so she could use feed- back from students and teachers to improve- ment the writing. Books are available for purchase at Sibley’s

West, 72 S. San Marcos Pl. in downtown Chandler; Changing Hands Bookstore, 6428 S. McClintock Dr. in Tempe; Gallery 225, 225 N. Gilbert Rd. in downtown Gilbert and online at www.TombstoneTortoise.com.

Tombstone history book has

dogs each, running a relay race on a course measuring 51 feet. The first dog jumps four hurdles and steps on a spring-loaded box that shoots out a tennis ball. The dog catches the ball and runs back over the four hurdles. When the dog crosses the starting line the next dog takes off. The first team to have all four dogs run without errors wins the heat. Nozomi Park is located at 250 S. Kyrene Rd. in Chandler. For
