CTA-Independence Hawks TRACK AND FIELD – Coaches Robin and Tuttle are
encouraging all students to sign up for the Hershey Track & Field Games being held at 7:30 a.m. Sat., March 31 at Chandler High School. The meet will feature sprints, relays, standing long jump and softball throw for youth in various age categories. Students are already practicing in P.E. for these events. To pre-register, visit the City of Chandler’s website before March 2. RUNNING CLUB – Running Club hosted six schools and
over 500 runners at Snedigar Park recently, where 28 stu- dents from CTA-Independence placed. First-place runners included sixth-grader Colin Guelich, second-grader Luke Schaefer, kindergartener Luke Padilla and fifth-grader Mihajla Milovanovic. Thanks to all the volunteers whose help is greatly appreciated. HISTORY LESSON – Fourth-graders have been making
history come alive while learning about Arizona’s history over the last 100 years. Classes visited the Arizona State Capitol and are preparing to take a trip to visit the Grand Canyon. Fourth-graders are also being visited by Scott “Grizzly” Sorenson, CTA’s favorite mountain man, who will describe how the influence of American explorers and trappers influenced the development of the Southwest. Students will be introduced to animal calls, primitive traps, tools and other paraphernalia used by mountain men and American Indians in the 19th and 20th centuries. —Sue Bowers

student in Mrs. McDonald’s class, won Chandler Centennial Celebration’s Birthday Card Cover Design Contest out of 1,500 entries. pated in the recent districtwide Student Council Convention, a gathering of 42 schools meeting to pro- mote leadership in students’ lives and in their schools. This year’s theme was “Leaders Blast from the Past.” Fulton students wore costumes that represented Chandler’s agricultural history with a special focus on the five C’s of Arizona: copper, climate, cattle, cotton and cit- rus. Fulton was awarded the best collage trophy for their covered wagon collage, which students made during their Student Council meetings. NEED FOR SPEED – Madeline Moran and Emyson

The PTO supports the school and helps teachers and administrators do their best work through fundraising efforts that supplement supplies and equipment, fieldtrips, student clubs and more.
