by Marc Ayotte The Campbell girls’ varsity basketball team completed their regular season this past week with three wins in a five-day span. The wins improved the Cougar’s season record to an unblemished 18-0 in capturing the regular season crown. With the title comes home court advantage throughout the playoffs as the Cougars seek to repeat as division III state champions. With Conant’s Brooke Springfield out of the picture, the Lady Falcons of Bow are the heir apparent to try and dethrone Coach Flynn’s heavily favored squad. However, the only meeting this season between the two teams, which took place in the Cougar Den, went to Campbell by a convincing 50-33 score. With a ‘big 3’ consisting of player of the year candidate Becca Arnone, freshman phenom Hannah Neild and Liz Pettis who is arguably the catalyst that makes this team gel, along with a tremendous supporting cast, the Cougars have run off 35 consecutive wins. Their last loss was in a regular season game last year at Somersworth. Interestingly enough, Campbell

enjoyed a little retribution salad on their 18-0 plate with a season ending 60-46 win against those same Hilltoppers on Valentine’s Day! Earlier in their basketball week, the Cougars picked up wins number 16 and 17 by doubling up Raymond 62-31 on the road as well as demolishing Farmington, 60-20, in The Den. In this day and age of leave no team behind in D-3, a total of 20 teams ‘qualify’ for the 16-team playoff bracket. With the so-called ‘play-in’ round beginning on Sunday, February 19, the bottom eight teams in the

‘Road to Repeat.’ Lady Cougars Celebrate Senior Night Romp The Campbell girls’ basketball team closed out their regular season home schedule on Monday evening, February 13 by celebrating senior night with a 60-20 drubbing of Farmington. The Cougars will be graduating four seniors off this years’s team; Shannon Lavigne, Ashley Gannon, Liz Pettis and Becca Arnone. Before the start of the game and with traditional Campbell class, the opposing players’ seniors were recognized. The Lady Cougars were then recognized at center court, being presented with flowers while their parents joined them for a photo op. The Cougars finished their home

schedule with a perfect 9-0 mark, defeating their opponents by an average margin of 32 points. Senior

night is always nostalgic and emotional for the athletes and expectedly more so for the Lady Cougars based on their team cohesiveness and long-running success. Senior guard Liz Pettis shared some of her thoughts about her time on the Campbell hardwood; “well I’d have to say my time at CHS has been great, and the program has been equally as great with making it to the finals all my years of being there.” The two sport athlete who also starred on the soccer field added, “Also, the coaches are fantastic they are very passionate about the game and work hard to prepare for each game by going out of their way. They don’t only care about us as basketball players but as people and try to help us succeed in all ways possible.”
