World Cup Round Up


Britain secured two top ten places in the final standings of the women's 2011 /12 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup after the seven race series finished in Hoogerheide in January.


Kona Factory Racing's HelenWyman finished in fifth place overall with 208 points following consistent riding throughout the series.


Wyman, who only finished once outside the top ten (on Boxing Day in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium where she finished 14th whilst suffering with illness), told The Cycling Post that she was pleased with her performances, securing fifth or sixth places in the majority of the races. The National Champion's best ride was in Lievin, France where she finished fifth, just six seconds from third placed Katie Compton ofRabobank-Giant.


Wyman was joined in the top ten by Nikki Harris of Telenet-Finia. Harris secured 144 points to claim tenth spot overall, finishing seventh in three races (Hoogerheide, Netherlands; Koksijde, Belgium and Leivin, France), to clinch her top ten place


The series was won by Holland's Daphny Van Den Brand ahead ofMarianne Vos. Katie Compton of the USAfinished third.


The men's series was won by Kevin Pauwels of Sunweb-Revor, from Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet) and Zdenek Stybar (Omega Pharma-Quickstep).


Britain's Ian Field, riding for Hargroves Cycles, finished in 36th place overall, his best result coming in Koksijde where he finished 22nd. Field, who claimed the British National title in January,


wrote on his website (www.ianfield.co.uk) that he was pleased with his performance in Koksijde, which was as close to a home race in theWorld Cup as the Brits would get, saying:


“I got a really good start and my training in the week really paid off, for the first time on the Koksijde course I felt good. With so many people shouting my name it felt good to re pay them with a top 25 finish (my goal at this year’sWorld Cups).... I finished the race absolutely knackered.”


In the Juniors, Hugo Robinson took 21 st overall, his best result 11 th in the Juniors' opening race in Tabor, Czech Republic.
