The TR Magnum overbarrel suppressor from MAE.

MAE launches AR suppressor

New Zealand’s MAE company, set up to address problems with hearing damage from high- power-rifl e sounds, has unveiled a key addition to its suppressors. Its TR Magnum overbarrel

model has been built for the Armalite AR rifl e platform in the long-range hunting, target shooting, sniping and even anti- materiel formats. T e powerful round demands

high-strength and high-precision manufacturing to withstand the pressure of the forces involved. A video clip on MAE’s website

shows the design being tested with an Armalite AR30 rifl e, using Federal 250-grain factory ammunition. It’s all part of a comprehensive

collection of suppressors designed for use with the most popular hunting and military calibres. When Gary McColl bought the business it was little more

than a cottage industry. However, the need for new products, repeatable high-precision manufacture and increased output volume soon had MAE equipped with state-of-the-art CNC-machining centres and highly specialised cutting tools developed for it by top Swedish cutting-tool maker SECO. With the desirability of sound

moderators in all applications – from the lone hunter to police, military and forestry personnel where gunfi re can be part of everyday life – the health and safety aspects ensure that the benefi ts of sound suppression in protecting hearing are becoming increasingly understood and make for a fast-growing market.

pistol is said to be the fi rst RSS model based on the renowned STI 1911-A1 design. T e magazine holds eight

cartridges loaded in the magazine like a real fi rearm, with each cartridge holding a 6mm BB. When fi red, the spent
