What’s your favourite room in your home? My sitting room because I spend a lot of time with my family there. It is a comfortable space; bright with many of my favourite pieces around.
What has been the most worthwhile interiors investment you’ve made? The grandfather clock in my small sitting room. At Christmas we place two Santa mice along with the two white mice on the opening at the side of it. This makes my granddaughter laugh.
Whose style do you admire? Frank Lloyd Wright and Rennie Mackintosh. Both built with nature in mind and use a lot of light to enhance the space.
If money was no object, how would you furnish a home? I would furnish it in a New York loft apartment style - dark wood, light fabrics and lots of eclectic items.
What makes a house a home? The people inside. You could go into the most beautiful room, but if the atmosphere is not quite right, it spoils the whole effect. Lighting is important to create the mood.
How would you describe your ‘signature’ look for your home?
Comfortable and homely, stylish and eclectic, contemporary with antiques.
My DIY nightmare is… re-doing our shower room which caused the whole central heating system to flood four rooms downstairs.
The interior I’ve been most impressed with is… Rennie Mackintosh’s Hill House in Helensburgh. The light
floods
through the windows against the smart white interior. All the little details make it special.
Biggest design faux pas people make is... trying too hard. It should be more instinctive than hard work, a labour of love.
My top interiors tip would be… keep it simple, make it your own and pay attention to the small details.
For a good housewarming present I’d buy… a nice picture frame to complement their home. The person can then personalise it with their own photographs.
