What the f*** is in that!!!!

Bottled Boardies… 63.4 billion plastic bottles end up in landfill and oceans each year. Consider that amount for a moment and then do the math. How many years will our planet al- low us to continually hide our rubbish in it‘s oceans? Thankfully, there are brands out there taking notice and making the conscious effort to protect their inter- est. Billabong have taken a sustainable step forward in green design with the release in ‘07 of the Platinum X Recycler Series – Boardshorts made from Plastic PET bottles. The unique process adopted by the brand turns plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles into stretch fabric. The material has high resiliency, high abrasion resistance, high UV resistance and high flex strength. Winning the SIMA (Surf Industry Manu- facturers Association) Product of the Year Award, the brand has also been recognised by the foundation for Social Change as one of its Leaders of Change, an award recognising companies committed to the pursuit of sustainability. Have you heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch? It is a garbage patch twice the size of Texas lying in the North Pacific .To date, Billabong has saved over 40 million plastic bottles from ending up in landfills, each pair of Recycler boardshorts produced saves approxi- mately 10 PET bottles from ending up in our oceans. Our lives depend on the ocean, most of the oxygen in the air we breathe is generated by the sea. How long will the planet allow us to use it as our garbage bin?

The Billabong Platinum X Recycler Series are available at SDS Miranda Westfield.
