Patriot baseball looking for post-season success

T
o say that Patriot baseball coach Luther Bramblett is disappointed with his season so far is an indication how solid he has built the program in his ten years at St. Catharine. The Bat Pats took a 27-22-1 record into the final week of the regular season. While most teams would cher- ish the chance to have a 30-win season, a mark Bramblett’s bunch has reached the last eight years, the Bat Pats skipper is now used to a record hovering just above .500. But the Patriots were hoping for good things in the final Mid- South Conference series of the regular season that could catapult them into a better seed for the conference tournament. The Bat Pats entered that final four game
set against Cumber- lands, a
team trailed they by three games
in the standings. Cumber- lands held a 14-10 conference slate compared to the Bat Pats’ 11-113 record. With a sweep of that final series, St. Catharine could climb out of the fourth place position they occupied in the West Divi- sion to as high as second place. That would guarantee them the home field advantage for the best of three series against an East Division team in order to advance to the Mid-South
Conference final six teams to be played in Campbellsville April 28-30.
Alan Stoupa, a senior catcher, currently leads the team in hitting with a .381 aver- age. Sopho- more pitcher
Matt Wagner
leads the team in vic- tories with a 5-1 record while Adam Gillcrist a senior, is the ERA leader at 2.76.
