“My father attached great importance to teaching children about prayer and the Sacraments. He wanted to nurture young people so they grew up as strong, loyal followers of Christ who knew the difference between right and wrong and had the courage and confidence to practise their faith and defend it when necessary.

“I had the great blessing of a Christian upbringing. I took this for granted and it was some time before I realised that many people have no knowledge of God and no awareness of his presence.

“I was confirmed when I was ten and attended a service for candidates.

The address was given by a priest who had served in the Royal Navy. He likened the Church to a great fleet of ships and, mindful of the vulnerability of ships which become cut off from the fleet, he advised us always to keep sailing with the fleet. Resources on the website help people see themselves as part of God’s family the Church, with a capital C, not only as members of their local church congregation. This is really important because when young people leave home and can no longer attend their home church, they need encouragement to stay with the Church, worshipping with a different congregation in their new environment.

“I have come to believe that sharing

the Christian faith with others is the most precious gift anyone can give. Hopefully, the Holy Faith website is helping to spread this news.

“It is getting visitors from all over the world, including some surprising ones such as Japan and the United Arab Emirates, and I hope more and more people will visit from more and more countries. However, numbers are not the most important thing. What really counts is the website may help people to know Jesus more clearly, love him more dearly and follow him more nearly in this life and see him face to face in Heaven. If that happens with just one person, it will have been worthwhile.”
