Impact of Separation
“
65% of those young family members who took part in the survey told us their serving family member has been away on operations overseas in the last three years. 16% had been separated from their family member for between six and twelve months, while 10% had been apart for more than a year.
This clearly has an impact on family life and comments made during unit visits indicate that the younger family members are affected by this level of repeated separation.
It is reassuring to note that three quarters of those young people who had been apart from their serving parent/sibling found it relatively easy to keep in touch with them while they were away.
