Supporting Lone Parents

“I was a lone parent for 3 years prior to getting remarried and I feel that the majority of the problems were that my family (parents) live in the North East and therefore unable to assist in childcare… My son had to move to live with his dad for 4 months and move schools for that period whilst I was deployed. I was worried that he would not want to come back and live with me when I returned, however he did.”

“Lone parent – the civilian definition or the Force’s definition?”

While we recognise that only a small number of lone parents participated in this survey, it is important to illustrate the range of challenges that they face on a day-to-day basis. Additional evidence indicates that only 4% feel that they are well supported by their chain of command, while 6% feel that they are subject to discrimination, to their disadvantage.
