Retail Lighting Below and Inset: Verbatim believe that OLEDs have a considerable amount to offer the retail lighting environment.

Chrobak-Kando also believes that the future spells an increase in organic LED products (OLEDs). “Retailers will benefit from the ability to emit dimmable and colour-tunable light across entire surfaces rather than from a series of small points. The soft and subtle opacity of illumination provided by wide-beam OLEDs would suit areas such as cosmetics counters and clothing displays where mirrors are commonplace.” As mentioned earlier, Philips has been advocating the use of LED in retail for some time now. The company has developed PureDetail, an LED accent lighting solution to help create a more vivid visual experience for shoppers, lighting products in a way that highlights texture and emphasizes detail; an ideal solution for fashion retail.

PureDetail combines advanced LED technology with distinct, high-quality optics, producing a finely tuned beam that makes small differences in height more apparent, and enhancing depth and shadow to make details clearly visible. Subtle decisions made by fashion designers

that help to create a more attractive product can often be overlooked in some lights, but PureDetail allows for every detail to be seen and appreciated. Caroline Easton, Retail and Hospitality Segment Manager at Philips, believes the product provides a whole new opportunity for lighting fashion retail; “PureDetail makes textures come alive, highlighting the quality and enhancing fabrics to look more three-dimensional and colours to appear more vivid. Ideal application environments would be windows, in-store displays and changing rooms, heightening the consumer experience and hopefully driving sales.” The potential for retailers to incorporate

new technology into their lighting schemes is something that is already being taken seriously, and with continual innovations in the industry, it’s only a matter of time before more will begin to see the light!
