Weinberg Wranglers

Birthday bash – Students have been preparing for Arizona’s 100th birthday by creating timeline quilts. Each class discussed an important event in Arizona history and created a quilt with pictures of that event. This walking timeline is on display in the Media Center. Weinberg celebrates Arizona’s Centennial Feb. 14 with a Centennial Sprint; families are encouraged to join their children on the run. Kindie capers – All four kindergarten classes at Weinberg will take a field trip on Tue., Feb. 21 to the Phoenix Zoo as a culminating activity to their study of animals. The bus will depart from the school at around 9 a.m. and will return by 1:30 p.m. All parents are welcome to chaperone but will need to provide their own transportation to and from the zoo. Fair fun – Weinberg recently held its annual art and science fair, where students in kindergarten to sixth grade displayed their artistic abilities and demonstrated the science projects on which they have worked so hard. Thanks to Carrabba’s restaurant for offering a wonderful dinner for the event, to Mrs. Fisher for her dedication to Art Masterpiece and to Weinberg’s PTO for helping to organize a great evening. Class notes – Fourth-graders took a special field trip recently to Kartchner Caverns, where they explored the Throne Room on a guided tour, played in the Discovery Center and enjoyed the scenery of the Whetstone Mountains. Comedy hour – Sixth-graders got a special treat recently when the National Comedy Theater came to the school and held a two-hour improvisation workshop with each of the sixth-grade classes. Classes worked on team-building and creative thought through play. —Tammy Douglas, Nasreen Wahid, Laura Thornburg
