treble jigs, hornpipes and set dances throughout the contest, and adjudicators Ellen Riordan, Edward Murphy and Mary Bryan watched the dancers, from newly-minted prelim champs to World Qualifi ers and Oireachtas winners. Dancers who placed in their competitions received a trademark trophy of a blown-glass vase from di Sciacca, a local downtown Chandler merchant. Bracken School of Irish Dance owner Thomas Bracken honored Dalton “Mac” McCarthy with a plaque on the occasion of his 90th birthday, noting that McCarthy provided space for the Bracken School in its beginnings at the local Knights of Columbus hall.
After the dancing ended, Sheila Maguire adjudicated the Music Fest competition and awarded the Mary Yolanda Dowling Memorial Trophy for best vocal performance to Ella Claire and Bridget Dolowy and the Mary Boyle Trophy for best instrumental performance to Shannon Schumann and Error! “This was truly a wonderful, fun feis, thanks to all the volunteers and parents who put it together and made it run smoothly,” says Damhsa’s Helene Ossipov. “We hope to see everyone, parents, teachers and dancers come back next year to start the 2013 Feis year!”
