In second and third places in the angler standings were Sea Angel team mem- bers Arturo Moreno and Greg Angel, with 1,200 and 1,100 points each. Moreno let go a pair of blue marlin and a handful of sailfish on the last day alone to vault up in the standings, while Greg Angel was steady as ever in the cockpit throughout the tournament.
The Presidential Challenge of Costa Rica Presented by I.C.T serves as an important fundraising project for billfish conserva- tion in Costa Rica. A significant portion of the event proceeds are sent to The Billfish Foundation, where they are used to fund conservation projects such as the recent- ly-concluded socio-economic study, both in Costa Rica and around the world. These projects are vitally important to the future health of billfish stocks.
The winning team will be invited to attend the IGFA Offshore Championship in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and the top angler also receives an invitation to attend the World Billfish Series Grand Championships in Los Suenos, Costa Rica.
For the three days of fishing, there were 115 billfish released: 20 blue marlin, five striped marlin and 90 sailfish.
First place fell to the Sea Angel.
