ast week, London- derry High School’s girls’

team ended up second in a three-team home meet that was won by rival Pink- erton Academy. But sever- al days later, the Lady Lancers took first place in a meet on the seacoast. The LHS bunch put

forth some strong work in its head-to-head, home meet with the tough

Pinkerton Lady Astros at LHS on Wednesday, Jan. 3. But the defending state champions from Derry got the win in the three- team meet with a point tally of 134.35. London- derry was second with a 123.75, and Souhegan of Amherst finished third with a 111.55.

That outcome made the LHS girls 2-1 on the young season. Veteran Cari O’Shea was a standout on vault,

Taylor Hicks, Senior, Gymnastics

A key contributor for

coach Terrianne Ar- cher's team, Hicks has been strongest on both vault and the balance beam. The veteran coach calls her "an asset to the team because her scores help elevate the total team score at each competition.”

Ben Flanders, Senior, Boys' Basketball This veteran leader averaged eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in the Lancers' 1- 1 week. He hit two clutch free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win against Spauld- ing, and also snagged some key rebounds in that period.

tying for first place with a score of 8.3.

Krissy Fedorchuk was

a crowd-pleaser on balance beam, pulling off a standing back tuck and a near flaw- less routine that got her third place with an 8.55. Steph Pestka placed third on floor with an 8.1, and O’Shea took third in the all- around with a 31.35. Miranda Marchetti also stood out for the hosts on bars and beam, scoring an 8.15 on beam that helped Londonderry’s overall score. Freshman Kass Moore and sophomore Emily Ray- mond also contributed to

the team performance. “I was very happy with how we did,” said LHS coach Terrianne Archer. “Our score wasn’t as high as in our season-opener, but I still think we’re mak- ing improvements.” But the next day the LHS contingent made the road trip to Dover and ended up with a team vic- tory.

Londonderry notched

a score of 115.85, outdis- tancing the Spaulding High Lady Red Raiders from Rochester (107.5). Farmington, Dover, and Windham also had gym-

nasts compete, but none of those three squads had the minimum of five ath- letes to be able to com- pete as a team.

O’Shea was the Lady Lancers’ stalwart at that event, snagging third places in every individual event but beam, as well as in the all-around.

Marchetti stood out on vault, in the floor exer- cise, and in the all-around scoring as well, Jess Mor- rissette was strong on bars, Moore impressed on vault, Nicole Lagasse and Alli Yennaco were strong on beam, and Pestka made an impression in the floor exercise.

Cari O'Shea tied for first place on the vault in the LHS gymnastics squad's hard-fought contest with Pinkerton at Londonderry High last week.

Senior Kristyn Fedorchuk and her Londonderry High teammates had themselves all set for their meeting with the defending state champs from Pinkerton last week. But the Derry crew won the three-team meet. Photos by Chris Paul
