This unit enables learners to understand the financial aspects of running a business including costs, revenue, profit, break-even and cash flow.

In these units learners are introduced to the importance of the roles people have and the contribution individuals and groups make to the effectiveness of organisations. Students study aspects of employment such as the recruitment and selection process and legal protection in the workplace.

This unit will explore the importance of excellent customer service to business organisations. Students will develop and broaden their understanding of customer relations through research and practical activities.

In this unit students will learn how to set up and run a samll business. They will develop their understanding of different issues which will affect preparing to run a business including ownership, regulations and laws and the importance of a proper business plan.

Verbal and Non- verbal communication in Business Contexts


Business Communication through Documentation


The purpose of these units is to develop learners’ ability to use communication skills effectively in the context of a workplace setting. Learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of the purpose of business communications in a range of contexts as well as developing and practicing communication skills.

The course will run from September 2011 until June 2012. Students will attend lessons for 18-20 hours per fortnight. In addition to this students will be expected to use the 6th Form Study Room and the Learning Resource Centre to study independently. It is expected that the majority of coursework will be completed outside the classroom.


On completion of a BTEC First Diploma, students can go onto further education to study a BTEC National Diploma in Business at College, or an ‘A’ level programme at school or they can go directly into employment.
