Entry Requirements
Students should have achieved at least a grade B in GCSE Design & Textiles Technology.
Students who have not studied Textiles at GCSE level to a grade B, should have at least studied another course in Design and Technology to a grade B and textiles in KS3.

Textiles are more than just Clothes. Did you know that the Textiles Industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world? And that the United Kingdom produces some of the world leaders in fashion, including Alexander McQueen and Vivien Westwood? Also did you know that Smart textiles fibres are used in high visibility coats and the Speedo suit? Did you know that Textiles fibres can be found in the wheels of a car and in the walls of buildings?
Textiles provides wide study opportunities ranging from fashion, interiors, accessories and aesthetics to industrial uses of textiles and from creative and industrial work to aspects of manufacturing and industrial and commercial practices.
Textiles are used in all areas of our daily lives and there are a huge variety of courses and careers available to students, having followed the Textiles A Level Course.

Lessons will be lively and interesting with a large element of practical work and experimentation. You will be expected to participate in class discussions about current trends in the Textiles design industry. Design is a subject that influences our daily lives directly and subliminally, awareness of trends and its impact on society is important.
Commitment
You will be required to attend all lessons. There are 9 hours per fortnight. You will also be expected to read outside the given topic in order to complete the A Level Textiles course successfully. You will be given many opportunities to succeed.
Subject at AS Unit 1
This written paper is based on knowledge of materials, components and design and market influences
Assessment: 2 hours written examination in January and June
25% of A Level and 50% of AS - 80 marks Unit 2
Learning through product development- Written design portfolio of work including product outcomes
Assessment: Coursework- Approximately 50 hours 25% of A Level and 50% of AS - 80 marks
