AS/A2 IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION (OCR) One Year AS-Level Course or Full Two Year A-Level Course


Why Study AS and A2 Physical Education?


A Level PE is the traditional progression for GCSE PE candidates achieving a B grade or higher and ideal for those students that want to pursue a career in sport or study further in this area at university.


If you have a wide-ranging interest in sport and would you like to follow a course that is both interesting and challenging then A Level PE could be the right option for you.


A Level PE is for anyone who enjoys both practical performance and developing their knowledge of theoretical concepts in sport and applying these to practical situations.


What will I Learn?


Subject at AS The AS course is assessed over two units in Year 1. Unit 1 is externally assessed through a 2 hour examination paper. Unit 2 is internally assessed, through compiling a portfolio of evidence of practical related tasks.


Unit 1: G451 An introduction to Physical Education


There are three sections. 1. Anatomy and physiology 2. Acquiring movement skills 3. Socio-cultural studies relating to participation in physical activity Assessment: 2 hour examination paper (60% of total AS and 30% of total GCE)


Unit 2: G452 Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in Physical Education


Candidates will be assessed in:


Performing/Coaching/Leading two chosen activities from two different activity profiles and evaluating and planning for the improvement of performance.


Assessment: Internally assessed, through a portfolio of evidence of the tasks and moderated by the examining board.


(40% of the total AS and 20% of the total GCE) Subject at A2


The A2 course is also assessed over two units in the second year. Unit 3 through a 2½ hour examination paper and Unit 4 requires a portfolio of evidence of the practical related tasks.

Mr A Dean Entry Requirements


Students should have achieved at least a grade B in their GCSE Physical Education (if studied) and grade BB or above in Science if not.
