why
Most students in year 11 are at a crossroads in their academic life and are in the process of making difficult choices that will have an impact upon their future education and careers. The purpose of this prospectus, the 6th Form Evening, and the advice given by subject tutors, is to facilitate these crucial decisions.
I would like all students currently in year 11 and 10 to consider the Sixth Form at Great Marlow School as a viable, attractive option for their post- 16 education. Since arriving at Great Marlow School in 2007, I have been impressed with many aspects of the school and, in particular, the Sixth Form. The quality of teaching by the Sixth Form subject tutors is of the highest calibre and students often comment on the willingness of their teachers to give extra assistance and guidance. The familiarity of the environment and teaching styles that Great Marlow School year 11 students enjoy, often forms their decision to pursue a place in the Sixth Form. In addition, the unique academic relationship that is fostered in years 12 and 13 and the willingness of staff to ‘Go the extra mile’ are important factors in the success that many of our students experience in their modular examinations.
The students can now choose from an extensive range of AS courses at Great Marlow School; the Wycombe Partnership Scheme which runs alongside six other local institutions adds variety and choice to our curriculum. The school also caters for those students who do not achieve five A*-C grades in Year 11 through a range of BTEC Diplomas and the Level 2 Project. Furthermore, Great Marlow is the only institute in the area to offer the Cache Diploma in Child Care. All Sixth Form students are encouraged to partake in many aspects of school life; physical, social and life skills are a key part of their learning and are compulsory elements of the timetable.
The Sixth Form facilities at Great Marlow School include a purpose-built work area with a suite of computers which is available for year 12 and 13 students only. The already relaxed and cheerful atmosphere of the Common Room is now complimented with a state-of -the-art study environment.
I am proud of the students who attend the Sixth Form at Great Marlow School and encouraged by the maturity, confidence and friendliness that I encounter on a daily basis. It is important to remind our year 11 students who choose to attend the Sixth Form that they must be self-motivated , independent learners with a positive attitude towards their education in order to succeed.
I invite all students who attend to gather as much information as they can about the options available to them at this school. It is important that a considered choice is made; with luck, you will find what you are looking for at Great Marlow School Sixth Form.
