Why Study ICT?
This GCE in Applied ICT is a ‘must have’ for every post-sixteen student. Highly motivating, it develops the knowledge and skills students need to be competent and informed ICT users and practitioners.
Advanced (Single Award) Subject at AS Unit 1 - The Information Age
We are living in an age with an enormous amount of information – television broadcasts, text messages, photographs, news, reports, email etc. This is communicated and stored in a digital format every day. You will take a critical look at the impact that the Internet has had on the way people conduct their personal and professional lives, explore the services it offers and gain hands on experience of using some of them. This is a user focused unit which results in your investigation and evaluation being presented in the form of a multimedia e-book designed to be read on a computer screen.
Assessment - Coursework This course introduces
Unit 2 - The Digital Economy This unit focuses on the interface between the consumer and
organisation allowing them to do business on-line. You will investigate how organisations respond to the pressure of the e-marketplace by using their websites to: present their products and services, gather information and provide a personalised service. You will also learn how to analyse and manage the large amounts of data generated by on-line transactions. Your in-depth investigation into your chosen transactional website and analysis of data will be presented in the form of an on-line e-portfolio.

Unit 3 - The Knowledge Worker People who work in the development of programs used to sup-
port decision making are known as knowledge workers. This includes programmers, systems analysts and users. You will learn to use a variety of models in different scenarios to make business related decisions. You will also learn how to select appropriate sources to support the decisions you make as well as prioritising tasks and setting deadlines.
Assessment – External practical examination
Subject at A2 Unit 7 - Using Database Software
You will learn the principles of data modelling and database design, and will then use relational database software to build working database
