AS/A2 LEVEL IN ART, CRAFT & DESIGN One Year AS-Level Course or Full Two Year A-Level Course
Why Study Art, Craft and Design?
Students study the ‘Art, Craft and Design’ course, which involves a series of brief workshops covering aspects of specialist disciplines in Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Textile Design and Three-Dimensional Design, followed by projects in one or more of these disciplines. A high grade at GCSE Art and Design would be expected (B or above) or a candidate should demonstrate ability and interest via a quality portfolio and interview. Accurate observation, an ability to draw skilfully, experiment with a range of materials and critically analyse art and design work are required skills for this course.
Progression routes often include a one year Art and Design Foundation Diploma, followed by a three year Higher National Diploma (HND) or Batchelor of Arts (BA) Degree Course, although other routes to employment are possible.
Related careers include: graphic design; advertising; product design; interior design; architecture; fashion and textile design; photography; animation, film and video; teaching; art and design history; conservation and restoration; gallery and museum administration; etc.
Students produce one coursework unit and one externally-set assignment (exam project) for both AS and A2, as follows:
