On Monday 23rd January, the U3A Marina Baixa held it’s 5th AGM and the new committee was introduced. The photo top left shows left to right: Elaine Mitchell, Newsletter, PR and Webmaster; Andy Graham, Treasurer; Joan Flint, Secretary; Barrie Price, President; Elizabeth Guest, Vice-President; Rob Parker, Travel and Social Secretary; Ann Wilson, Group and Speaker Co-ordinator.


There were ninety two attending the AGM including rejoining members, new members and visitors. During the meeting the President John Finnett presented donation cheques to Anne and Pam for EMAUS (photo middle left), Jacqui Philips MBE, the president of MABS (photo bottom left), and The Vice Mayor with Elisabeth, for the Mayor’s Charity (phto bottom right). A fourth donation had previously been handed to Doggies Angells, Finestrat.


The U3A Marina Baixa is a lively and active Association with various Groups. We have weekly Spanish for beginners, intermediates and conversation. Also weekly is the Sugarcraft group creating exquisite works and also a good number enjoy the Petanca group and it’s social aspects. Twice a month a well attended Rummikub group meet to exercise thinking powers. The monthly groups are also varied: Watercolours, Ten Pin-bowling, Picnics (which include a light-hearted quiz), Classical Music, Spanish Culture and Spanish History meet on alternate months. One of the largest groups is the Dining Out, clearly we all have good appetites! Having eaten well, walking with the Sunday Strollers helps to burn a few calories. There are other Groups being discussed for the future. As you can see, there is really something for everyone.

always on the 4th Monday of the month at the Casa de Cultura, Alfaz del Pi. The annual membership fee is just 12€ (or pro-rata later in the year). A Night of Painters and Poets


St. Valentines month is here and the subject of “Love” will simply not disappear . With this in mind ArtHouse Gallery in Gata de Gorgos will be holding an art and literature night on Saturday 3rd March from 8pm until 10pm. The Theme of this night is nothing more and nothing less than “Love”. That odd yet intoxicating emotion that in some way or another touches us all. Love has been and still is the greatest inspiration for all creative souls.


This night explores the concept of “love” with both paint brush to canvas and pen to paper.


Published and well known author Wendy Bolton-Williams will be reading exerts from her latest book “another one bites the dust” alongside a book signing. There will also be Paintings on display by some of the Costa Blanca’s leading artists including owner of ArtHouse and international artist Julia Evans who will be displaying her latest collection of paintings “lessons from a poet” for the first time. There will also be live readings of novel exerts, flash fiction and poetry by members of the Denia Writers’ Circle.


The picture shows Julia applying the final touches to her painting as Wendy reads an extract from her current novel “Another One bites the dust”.
