WE REMINISCE.... What Happened To
Brownstone If You Love Me stormed the charts in 1993 paving the way for Brownstone’s mainstream success. Although at this point the scene was flooded with numerous other female quartets, Brownstone brought an amazing dynamic to the scene with amazing vocals by group members Nicole ‘Nicci’ Gilbert, Charmayne ‘Maxee’ Maxwell and Monica ‘Mimi’ Doby. ‘If You Love Me’ reached the top ten taking their debut album ‘From the Bottom Up’ to platinum status.
After extensive touring a rift developed in the camp resulting in Monica’s departure from the trio. Kina Cosper joined the group for their second album ‘Still Climbing’ and maintained the group’s balance. The album saw some success with the single ‘5 Miles to Empty’ reaching No.6 in the RnB charts; however the album’s success fell short of their first effort and the group faded into the history books.

OVER PROOF RIDDIM - FULL STRENGTH JA PRODUCTIONS STAR RATING: H H H H
I’m feeling kind of merry even though the festive period has officially ended, why I hear you ask? Because, I’m listening to the ‘Over Proof Riddim’. It’s exactly what
it says, full strength, undiluted dancehall music. Khago’s ‘Turn Up Di Ting!’ Excites me! A refreshing flow delivered to perfection - Radio friendly and a good advert for this genre of music. Also lending their vocals to the riddim are Aidonia, Beenie Man and R&B star Daniel Beddingfield. Mavado’s ‘Settle Down’ has to be the ladies anthem right now, and is destined to be a classic. 2011 was big for Mavado, however 2012 could well be even bigger and this hit track will set the foundation.

Jeezy is back with a fourth album, Thug Motivation: 103 Hustlerz Ambition. Fans won’t be disappointed with the top quality production behind this edition. It features collaborations with a mixture of artists from the RnB and Hip Hop Realm. TEAM R&B: LLOYD - SHE IS ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS - INTERSCOPE RECORDS Lloyd is fast becoming a guilty pleasure of mine. No scratch that! I’ll say it I’m feeling Lloyd! Yeah Christmas has been and gone but this track oozes MJ in every way that it just had to be my battle track. It’s as if Lloyd has been possessed by the spirit of MJ. Close your eyes and you can see him circa ‘Rock Your Body’ days in a spangly bodysuit. Production also channels MJ’s beats, the 80s - trumpets and a lil’ rip of the Charlie’s Angels theme tune to boot. Seems like the 80s/90s RnB vibe is the new flava. Excuse me while I reach for the Soul Glo!
Come on Hip Hop head Les, what you got??!?? As long as it’s not Common think I got this one…….unless….it’s not the Roots is it??? As for the winner think it’s a draw this month, wouldn’t you say so Les??
TEAM HIP HOP: MOBB DEEP - LOVE YA MORE 2011 INFAMOUS RECORDS 2012 and your still coming with your popcorn RnB, not to mention a Christmas track? It’s cool, I am going to go in real hard with a new track from classic Hip Hop duo Mobb Deep. Ok since Prodigy has been released from prison we know that an album is on the horizon. Many Mobb fans are anxiously waiting to hear what magic is being created in the studio. Although this track has had some airtime since last year, it has now been officially released. Producer the Alchemist lends this track some magic with a good old school beat and sample. Havoc and Prodigy spread some love, with lyrics that simply flow, making it known that they are focused on the future and there is no going back.
