Chad E. Walker C
had E. Walker is a Director and Senior Counsel in the Legal Department at McDonald’s Corporation, the world’s leading global foodservice retailer with more than 33,000 restau- rants in 118 countries. Walker serves as Division Counsel for the West Division and is responsible for counseling divisional and regional leadership on franchising, operations, strategic and overall system issues that impact McDonald’s restaurants located in the western states of the U.S., including Hawaii. Walker began his career at McDonald’s in Asset Management Legal where he was responsible for advising regional leadership on the negotiation of amendments, purchase contracts and lease renewals in order to secure real estate tenure for existing McDonald’s locations across the U.S.
Prior to joining McDonald’s, he served as Deputy General Counsel for the State of Illinois Department of Central Management Services. In this role, he was responsible for providing legal counsel to government and legislative leadership on procurement and property management issues. Prior to his position in state government, Walker was a corporate/real estate attorney at the law firms of Arnstein & Lehr and, subsequently, Michael Best & Friedrich. Walker received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisville, where he was a mem- ber of the Louisville Cardinal Football Team, and Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin- Madison Law School. Walker works tirelessly on advancing diversity in the legal profession. Through his role as chair of the McDonald’s Legal Department Diversity Committee, Walker serves on the board of the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Minority Corporate Counsel Association and Association of Corporate Counsel. Walker was a 2008 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow. Walker and his wife, Angela, have two children and reside in Hyde Park.
Joseph West J
oseph F. West, MSc., ScD-Dr. West is currently Senior Epidemiologist and Program Director at the Sinai Urban Health Institute-Sinai Health System and Adjunct Professor Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is the co-leader of a community-based study aimed at reducing the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes, addressing obesity and food access issues, and improving patient care. In partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois this work is centered in Chicago’s North and South Lawndale communities. He is the author of the memoir Trod the Stony Road: AYoung Man’s Journey from the Mississippi to the Charles. The book chronicles West's journey from East St. Louis to Harvard where he received both his Masters and Doctorate of Science degrees. Several schools in the Chicago area and across the country have used his book to start reading clubs for boys, ages 9-17. His work has been featured on National Public Radio, Harvard Magazine, the Chicago Tribune and academic journals. He’s a frequent guest on numerous radio and television media discussing public health and healthcare topics. West is also a playwright having penned the stage-play Suga’ Foot Blue which debut in 2011 to strong reviews. West has been awarded the Albert Schweitzer ‘Reverence for Life’ award and like Dr. Schweitzer he is committed to making his life’s work his argument.
