New year,
Crawley Borough Council and Freedom Leisure are working together to help you achieve your fitness and physical activity goals in 2012.
The council’s Crawley Wellbeing team is working with Freedom Leisure, the managers of K2 Crawley, to increase the health and wellbeing and physical activity opportunities for residents.
The areas where the teams are working together, and how they can help you, are:
Disability sport
This project increases sport and physical activity opportunities for disabled people. It does this through the development of the Moving Barriers disability sports club, the newly-established Disability Forum at K2 Crawley, putting on the Paralympic Open Day and establishing a boccia / kurling club at the leisure centre, with a disability athletics club due to begin soon. Secured funding to install an electronic changing table (poolside changing) and a mobile pool hoist to increase access to the pool.
Football in the Community
Freedom Leisure is delivering this football development programme over the next three years. This includes school and community-based activity including holiday courses.
New you? GP referral programmes / weight management
The Active Life (exercise referral) Programme goes from strength to strength and Freedom Leisure staff are also involved in delivering Crawley Wellbeing’s Weight Off Workshops (WOW).
School sport
This is a partnership between the council, Freedom Leisure and Thomas Bennett Community College. All partners contribute to a School Sport Co-ordinator, who is establishing links with primary schools to offer curricular and extra-curricular opportunities.
Sportsmania taster sessions
These are weekly, multi-sport taster sessions for young people, held at the Bewbush Centre.
