ACCORDING TO
MASHABLE.COM, 20 percent of all mobile ecommerce sales currently come from tab- lets, nearly two thirds of tablet owners have purchased goods via their device, and more than 56 percent have downloaded shopping related applications. A study from ZMags commissioned before the 2011 holiday season noted that 87 percent of tablet owners would be brows- ing and purchasing presents through their device, spend- ing an average of $325. In addition, 49 percent of tablet owners believe they will shop more on their tablets in 2012, compared to only 19 percent of smartphone own- ers. T e increase in tablet commerce shows the need for
online sellers to ensure that their sites are optimized for the iPad and other tablets. T e average tablet user is a male between the ages of
18 and 34, nearly twice as likely as the general population to be a college graduate, and more than four times as likely to have an annual income over $100,000. Users spend about an hour and 35 minutes a day on their tab- lets, typically spending ten to 20 percent more on pur- chases than shoppers that do not have tablets. By 2015, about one third of the U.S. population will own tablets, with total mobile commerce expected to grow from $3 billion in 2010 to $31 billion in 2016.
