“No worries!”
What you will be doing You will help to construct or upgrade some classrooms that – like the three little pigs – will withstand huffing and puffing from the elements and that give children the space and facilities they need. You do not need any building expertise.
You will also visit a number of our partners around Rukungiri, including education and self-sufficiency projects for disabled people. By way of encouragement you will see some of the schools that Mission Direct helped to rebuild in 2011 and maybe join in with some of the lessons.

Off duty – on safari You will visit a national park and wind down with a short safari. So, pack your camera and get ready to spot lions, elephants, hippos and water buffaloes.
The Australians may use the term “no worries”, but the people of Rukungiri live it. Despite their many problems borne of poverty, Ugandans have a warmth and optimism to match their equatorial climate.
Time and again, when we ask our volunteers to sum up what they have gained from their time in Rukungiri, they say things like ‘I am learning to be happy and grateful – to just enjoy life.’ If you are longing to see the world through a fresh pair of eyes, this could be the trip for you.
The projects
The children of Uganda are desperate for a proper schooling. But they are let down badly by the state of the schools themselves: many are so tumbledown they are close to collapsing. Some classrooms are built out of mud and sticks and wash away in heavy rains. Well built schools are not a luxury; proper buildings mean proper education. And a good education is the way out of poverty.
