‘Practically Radical’ Progress

WILLIAM TAYLOR EXPLAINS HOW TO ACHIEVE GREATNESS AT IHRSA 2012

What a great honor it is to be featured among 12 of the most influential fitness industry leaders in the January issue of CBI magazine. (See “12 on 2012,” pg. 46.) With continuing economic uncertainty comes the need to remain fiercely competitive, as consumers become increasingly careful about how they invest in their health and fitness. And there’s no better way to stay competitive than by maintaining a team of highly skilled and credentialed fitness professionals. In 2012, ACE will continue to set the highest standards for certification and education by offering cutting-edge programming, and by forging key partnerships and strengthening relationships with quality organizations such as IHRSA, which, in turn, will create new opportunities to reach the fitness consumer. Together, I’m confident we will make huge strides towards the eradication of America’s obesity crisis. —| Scott Goudeseune | CEO | American Council on Exercise (ACE) | San Diego, CA

São Paolo Success

> I attended the IHRSA/Fitness Brasil Latin American Confer- ence and Trade Show for the first time in September, and I really enjoyed the event. Great speakers full of passion for the fitness industry! Congratulations! See you all next year.—|

Yordi Arteaga | Personal Trainer | Caracas, Venezuela Thanks for the Honor!

> I’d like to thank CBI for including me in its “12 on 2012” story in the January issue. It’s an absolute honor to be ranked among the many great industry leaders who were highlighted. I’m proud and humbled to be a part of this wonderful industry and cherish every day we can create a positive impact for the many people who need us. I look forward to presenting at the IHRSA convention in

Los Angeles in March, and to connecting with the many other health and fitness professionals and vendors there. On Saturday, March 17, I’ll moderate a panel discussion, “Transitioning From Personal Trainer to Successful Business Entrepreneur,” and will also present an educational session, “Creating a World-Class Personal Training Business.”—|

IDF Ensures Survival

> As the owner of a small independent club, I regard my sup- port of the Industry Defense Fund (IDF) as vital to the success and survival of my business. Joining forces with club owners and operators from around the world to address issues that pose a threat to our industry is crucial to the growth of every club, regardless of its size.—|

Susan Cooper | Owner | Body Business Health Club & Spa | Austin, TX An Augie’s Quest Request

> The Clubs for the Quest and Zumba Fitness are making it easier than ever for our industry to work together as one to raise $1 million for Augie’s Quest by March 15. The goal is for 2,000 clubs across the U.S. to conduct a one-hour Zumbathon charity event between January 15 and March 15, with the goal of generating a $500 donation from each event for Augie’s Quest. Our request is that you dedicate a special Zumba class to

finding a cure for ALS, with members providing a donation for participating. Club owners: you can make a difference in the world by

saying yes. For information about conducting a special Zumba event, visit www.clubsforthequest.com. Simply follow the instructions on the drop-down box for Zumba, and it will lead you and your Zumba-certified instructors to all of the support materials. —|
