Acting Intensive: Uta Hagen Technique with Carole Zucker


Discover the techniques developed by the legendary Uta Hagen at the HB Studios in NYC! We’ll explore the tools actors need to deepen a character’s reality through exercises that target the vital questions: Who am I? What are my circumstances? What are my relationships? What do I want? What’s in my way? And what do I do to get what I want? Participants are then assigned scenes that we’ll develop and rehearse in class, and share with an invited audience on the final day. Expect to memorize your scene and rehearse with your scene partner outside of class. Experience is welcome, but not necessary.

Theatrical Clowning with Jean Taylor Theatrical clowning teaches us many things about ourselves as performers: how to begin from a place of simple yet energized presence, how to sustain the pleasure of playing in the moment, how to mine the power of doing one thing at a time, and above all, clowning helps us accept our own unique ridiculousness, which in turn may transform our habits of restriction into skills of open expression! We’ll address the basic Alexander Technique concepts of recognition of habit, positive inhibition, and the awareness of end-gaining to support the exploration of the theatrical clown. Acting background helpful, but no experience necessary.

Shakespeare Workout with Vermont Shakespeare Company


Choose your Shakespearean monologue and come work it out! Learn more about how to approach the language, poetry and physicality of Shakespeare and transform the text to action. This fun and rigorous four-hour workout explores the specifics and demands of working on classical text through physical acting exercises, voice and speech work, text analysis and a one-on-one coaching session. Experience is welcome, but not necessary.
