The Chak89 restaurant in Mitcham was recently surprised to receive a visit from the Bollywood actor, Imran Khan. Accompanied by film director Kunal Kohli and Frank Khalid, managing director of Chak 89, he enjoyed a couple of quiet drinks before mingling and having his picture taken with diners.


Yet another famous visitor was the former model and now actress, Deepika Padukone. Frank Khalid welcomed her with a bouquet of flowers and says, “It was a privilege to have such a talented and beautiful actress visit us here at


More recently Chak 89 hosted actor and producer Abhishek Bachchan, who was in town promoting his new film “Players”. After saying a few words about the film, Abhishek ordered a meal whilst being presented with a signed Chelsea shirt by Frank Khalid owner of Chak 89. Three lucky winners who filled out the Chak 89 free entry draw at deli counters in Asda stores across London were also there to meet the


star, who signed the Chak 89 wall, next to where his father, Amitabh Bachchan had signed when he payed a visit.


Surrey diners show Vision in charity giving


Vision Bangladesh, the proceeds of fund raising events held in October and November to help pay for operations in Bangladesh, where there are high levels of blindness because of poverty and lack of facilities.


Curry lovers in Surrey have given generously to help save the sight of impoverished people in Bangladesh.

Participants included the Curry Inn restaurant in Cranleigh, which raised more than £400 in just over two weeks, the Indus Restaurant in Banstead and Star of India in Cheam. Mr. Malik, proprietor of The Star of India, hosted the cheque handing over ceremony, where it was announced that a group of around 20 restaurants in Surrey are now planning further fundraising events this Spring.
