“Thumbs down to the Pelham Public Library for their lack of consideration toward patrons and their sad excuse of a work ethic. It is inexcusably rude how the librarians treat patrons with non- caring attitudes by acting as if they can’t be bothered with inquiries and how they pawn off their work duties on volunteers who are probably more qualified to work in their paying positions than they are. Maybe it is high time the town’s human resources department lay off the dead weight at the local library. That would be a major town improvement to help reduce taxes.”

“Thumbs down to last week’s post from the fireman trying to explain the extra vehicles at the firehouse. He stated the Crown Vic couldn’t be used for fighting fires and was used for non- inspection use but failed to give a use for it. Firefighters shouldn’t be using pleasure vehicles because they must stay with the fire truck in case there is a fire. If the fire inspector used a forest truck for inspections that would keep a firefighter in a fire truck, the SUV he now uses could be eliminated. We understand that we need pickups for brush fires, but when you have almost zero brush fires, those trucks spend most of their life sitting at the firehouse.”

“Thumbs down to the Windham School District for the delayed opening on Friday, January 13th. You have gone soft. We live in New England. Contrary to the recent weather, it snows here in the winter, all the time, sometimes a lot. There is a whole team of extremely capable snowplow operators out there who have been twiddling their thumbs for 3 months and, I’m sure, are on top of this very minor ‘storm’ we had. Our excellent bus drivers are used to driving in less than ideal conditions. If we are going to cancel or delay school every time a flake of snow hits the ground, our children will be going to school until August. I grew up in the town next door, and at least 6 inches had to fall before they would even consider a delayed opening. I promise not to sue you if my precious angels have to wait for the bus in a slight mist or temperatures below 50 degrees. So let’s put on our big kid pants and get our act together, ok?”

“Thumbs down to the Pelham High School Boys Varsity Basketball team and their fans for

parent.’ Seriously? I would recommend you give your child a dose of reality. In the real world, they are not going to be able to pick who their boss is going to be and whether that boss will be nice or mean. To all parents of children who go to high school: cut the umbilical cord already because I am sick and tired of having to deal with other kids who think the world should be handed to them on a silver platter, merely because their parents already do. I have had the privilege of working with all of the teachers before and after school and they are all very brilliant people who teach in very distinct ways. If your child isn’t learning anything as you claim she is, then maybe your child simply doesn’t learn the way the teacher teaches. Complaining to the Principle and Superintendent about a wonderful teacher who has so much to offer to students won’t do anything.”

“Thumbs down to zoning laws! Zoning laws violate property rights.

Property rights are a basic civil right. People should be able to use their own property as they see fit. If their neighbors don’t like it, they have the right to remain silent. In this tough economy we should be applauding people who start businesses out of their homes, not trying to strangle them with bureaucratic red tape. Zoning laws helped create the housing bubble by artificially limiting the supply of housing. Government needs to leave people alone so they can use their own property as they see fit. “Thumbs down to people who can’t read and understand the rules. I went to a Biddy Basketball game at the Pelham Elementary School recently. There is a good size sign stating ‘No Food or Drink in the Gym.’ I couldn’t believe how many parents walked in with coffee, juice and large bags of food from McD’s. Can’t you people read? Your showing your children that you are above the rules and they in turn will learn from you that rules are for everyone else, except you. Smarten up and lead by example! No wonder why we have a generation of ‘me only’ people! Oh, and the sign also states ‘Please wipe your feet.’”

“Thumbs up to the good people in our community who are helping to come up with items needed for Pelham High. The school is currently on accreditation warning. Many people work for, or know people, who work for companies that generously give charitable donations. These potential funds often go unused because employees don’t think to request them.

Corporate donations to any of Pelham’s Schools count as a corporate charitable deduction. The high school science department is hurting. Specific lab benches/ tables, microscopes and glassware need to be replaced or added. Please consider what I’m doing and check with your employer to see if your company can help out with any funds to knock out this accreditation issue. Present accreditation report (http://www. pelhamsd.org/SAU/ Accred-Timeline%20- Check%20List.pdf) to employer and contact the school directly with any help available. Thank you for your help.”

“Thumbs down. The Superintendant is not a great guy. He’s a rude person who should not get a raise. Raises are given to people who improve their companies, make them run more efficiently, either work inside a budget or lower. Most of the tax base goes to the schools, yet it’s never enough. Things that should get fixed yearly, aren’t done until it’s out of control. Yes, I have paid taxes for over 50 years, I am not miserable, I do remember however

when we paid a lot in taxes and the schools where run with a pride and respect from everyone, including the students. Not the whining and disrespect shown today.”

“Thumbs down. Windham school board, are

you for real? Another school? You all need to be voted out. My husband is retired and disabled and had to go back to work to help pay the taxes in this town. Are you afraid the kids might rub shoulders in the hall? Pelham has the right idea, and lucky they didn’t merge with this money hungry town.”

submitted by Windham Police Department On Sunday, January 8, at 4:10 p.m., the Windham Police

and Fire Departments responded to Range Road by Griffin Park for a reported crash involving two vehicles. On arrival, it was determined that a head on collision had occurred. The driver of a 1993 Honda Accord identified as John Barclay,

73, of Windham, was found unresponsive and transported to Parkland Medical where he was pronounced dead. The driver of a 2008 Nissan Sentra, Ashley Kellogg, 24, of

Windham, had to be extricated from her vehicle. She and her passenger, identified as Tyler Kellogg, 19, also of Windham, were transported to Parkland Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation revealed that the Honda Accord was traveling north on Range Road when it crossed the center line and struck the Nissan Sentra. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Windham Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Senator Ayotte Announces Service Academy Nominees

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) has announced the names of the 32 New Hampshire students she has nominated to attend one of the nation’s military service academies in 2012. To be considered for appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by a Member of Congress or other authorized nominating source. Senator Ayotte hosted a reception on January 4 in honor of the nominees at the Christa McAuliffe Center in Concord. “It’s an honor to nominate outstanding young people to be considered for admission to our nation’s military service academies,” said Senator Ayotte. “These young men and women have excelled inside and outside the classroom while making valuable contributions to their local communities. They represent some of the very best of New Hampshire, and I expect great things from them in the future.”
