Neighbors Helping Newborns, a 501(C)3 non-profit, provides necessities to premature and newborn babies. Volunteers sew and/or knit quilts, blankets, hats, sweaters, and other necessary items. We deliver thousands of handmade and donated baby care items and clothing yearly to hospitals in MA and NH which are given free of charge to families in need. Tuesday, January 24 The Supervisors of the Checklist of Salem will be in session from 7-8 p.m. on the lower level of the Municipal Office Building. Residents of Salem may register to vote, make changes or corrections to their existing data, or switch their party affiliation at these sessions. Perspective new voters need to be 18 years of age. A picture ID and proof of domicile is required (driver’s license is acceptable). In order to participate in the upcoming Town Deliberative Meeting on February 4, or the School Deliberative Meeting on February 9, a resident must be registered 10 days or more beforehand. No registrations will be accepted on the day of the meeting. Residents may also register at the Town Clerk anytime during regular office hours.
Saturday, February 4 and Saturday, March 17 The first Town Deliberative Session will be held on Saturday, February 4, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Salem High School
Auditorium. The second Town Deliberative Session will be held on Saturday, March 17, beginning at 9 a.m., also in the Salem High School Auditorium.
Thursday, February 9 The deliberative session of the Annual School District meeting is set for Thursday, February 9, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Seifert Auditorium at Salem High School.
Saturday, February 11 An “Afternoon Tea, a Gift of Love,” will be held at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church to support homeless families in the area. Bringing loved ones, from little daughters to precious old friends, will be a gift of love,
while also bestowing love on the more than 155 homeless families in our part of Rockingham County. The tea will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., with seating every hour. Live musical entertainment can be enjoyed while waiting for seating times, or afterwards to linger in the pleasant Victorian atmosphere. Beautiful hats and long skirts will lend to the ambiance but are not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite teacup and saucer wrapped in a tea towel for safe and spotless transport. Rather than tickets, donations from the heart are requested. info@triumphantcross.org to make reservations to the tea. The church office is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. till noon, but messages can be left and will be returned. Donations of delectable tea desserts, special teas, centerpieces, table coverings and time and ideas will be appreciated.

Wednesday, January 25 The Kelley Library will hold another Read to Dixie session at 6 p.m. Dixie, the Kelley Library’s visiting Read Therapy dog, is back for more reading sessions. Children can practice their reading skills with Dixie.

Wednesday, January 25 The Kelley Library Book Group will meet at the library at 7 p.m. This long-standing book group is starting the new year with Castle, by J. Robert Lenno. The book group is open to the Salem community, and always welcomes new members.

Starting Now The Salem School District is seeking information for age-eligible first grade students for the 2012- 2013 school year. Parents of children who will be six years of age by September 30, 2012 (incoming Grade 1), and are not already enrolled in the district’s kindergarten program, are asked to notify the office of the Superintendent of Schools with the following directory information: First and last name, date of birth, street address and mailing address, parent/guardian name, home telephone number, parent/guardian e-mail address. Parents can provide the above named information by calling 893-7040 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday; by mailing the information to the Office of the Superintendent, 38 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH 03079; or by e-mailing the information to kregistration@sau57. org.
