THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES

by Peter Grasso Contributing Writer

Needless to say, being

almost 100 miles into the woods one might expect to be minus some of the comforts of home. Not so! Camp was comfortable with electricity (a genera- tor that ran 24/7) and a propane furnace that kept us all quite comfortable. There was a wood stove present but not used while we were there. We had running water

Phil Hubbard We had ALL the comforts of home!

(NOT for drinking), flush toilet, gas stove and two gas refrigerators for our groceries. VERY com- fortable, indeed. In the early evening we had two red and two black foxes around begging scraps. I think, in all, there were

4 – 5 deer taken that first day. However, all reported that sighting swere mini- mal compared to other years. The guides were very

each. I think we ended up with 11 for the time we were there. All deer were quartered

and packed up, but the guides, for the flight out, which was scheduled for 9 – 9:30 on our day of departure. This meant leaving camp about 5:00 AM for the ride back to the airport. NOW the adventure be-

gan. We had had rain the See GRASSO on 25

efficient in that the deer were taken to the “Meat Shack” where they were skinned & hung for pack- ing up on our departure. Over the next two days

we did have some snow in the higher elevation and the roads really turned ugly! LOTS of ruts, holes and ICE! The guides vehi- cles were Ford F-250’s and they REALLY took a beat- ing. “Built Ford Tough” and that’s for sure. Before we were finished,

I did spend a few more hours in tree stands, “Shack” stands and walk- ing but never got off an- other shot. I did see about 7 more deer but nothing that I felt comfortable with shooting at. As the week ended, the

group, 7 guys and one gal, all took at least one deer
