NEWS FROM THE DEPARTMENTS ART and DESIGN

The Art & Design Department have been involved with the John Gray Centre in Haddington, which is going to launch in Spring 2012. A cohort of S4 pupils have been working with a weaver to produce samples of woven textiles which are going to be produced by Dalgleish‟s Mill in Selkirk, with the chosen sample forming part of the display at the John Gray Centre. The Dalgleish Mill is one of the last remaining textile mills in the Borders and is responsible for producing the majority of fabric used by Vivienne Westwood in her unique designs. The pupils involved are looking forward to the launch. Here- are some examples of the work they have been doing.

The pupils were also learning about the history of the mills from some retired mill-workers who were able to pass on some information about the textile industry.
