Historic Chateau Theatre 15 1st St SW Since 1992


One of the most elaborate theatres built in the early 1900s with French village décor, including balconies, turrets, and a ceiling with stars in the night sky. The exterior sunburst design marquee is lit with 636 light bulbs. Refurbished in 1994, this elegant old theatre now houses a Barnes & Noble Bookstore and Starbucks Café.

Plummer House of the Arts 1091 Plummer Ln SW 507-328-2525 • www.rochestermn.gov/departments/park/facilities/ plummerhouse/index.asp A 49-room Tudor mansion on 11 acres of landscaped grounds. Built by Dr. Henry S. Plummer, the property features many innovations, formal gardens, bird trail, quarry, and water tower. Grounds open year-round. Self-guided tours Weds, June– Aug. 1-6pm. Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial 3rd Ave and 7th St SW 507-289-8981 • www.soldiersfieldmemorial.org Consists of four 60-foot circular granite walls that feature battle graph- ics from the Civil War to the Gulf War and stories of military events and historical facts from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War. The focal point of the Memorial is the Wall of Remembrance, a granite wall 12 feet high by 50 feet long that contains the names of 2,500 men and women from SE Minnesota who died, and there are also 5,500 engraved granite pavers with the names of those who served. Cannons from the Gulf War and World War I are also featured.

The Sisters at Assisi Heights 1001 14th St NW 507-282-7441 • www.rochesterfranciscan.org Situated on 100 acres high on a hill northwest of downtown, home to the Sisters of St. Francis. Visitors are welcomed to an ornate lobby with slate floor, Italian marble columns, and hand-blown stained glass windows from Germany. Under the leadership of Mother Alfred Moes, the sisters were instrumental in establishing St. Marys Hospital—the first hospital in Rochester, predating Mayo Clinic. Guided tours are available Mon and Sat at 2pm by appointment. Additional times may be arranged for groups of 10 or more upon request. Donations are appreciated.


The Rochester Carillon 2nd St & 2nd Ave SW The 56-bell carillon, atop the Plummer Building, is the most complete in North America. Heard outdoors in downtown Rochester, 30-minute concerts are Mon, 7pm; Weds and Fri, noon.
