Support Friends of Theatr Gwaun to keep the theatre open e.g. using it as a venue for a possible Fishguard Film Festival.


Continue to establish and market the area as a centre of excellence for arts and crafts.


Investigate developing a venue dedicated to the Arts in Fishguard.


Attract more secure funding for Fishguard’s folk, jazz and blues, and classic music festivals to ensure their continuation.


Support the proposed Community Olympiad and other cultural events at the Phoenix Centre.


Business, Local Economy & Enterprise Commentary:


The Welsh Government has taken the lead in integrating the work of its agencies and the local authority to minimise the effects of closures, such as Dewhirsts, on the local economy and maximise future growth opportunities. This work is under development under 7 main themes in the Fishguard and North Pembrokeshire Regeneration Plan: Communications, Business support, Lifelong learning, Tourism, Communities, Port and marina development and Town Centre.


It is felt that enhanced road and rail communications would strengthen the southern economic corridor as part of Trans-European networks. The Welsh Government’s decision to construct a new by-pass formed an important part of the Strategy as will the plans to run 5 additional train services between Fishguard and Carmarthen, starting in September 2011, which will be a trial for 3 years. These trains will improve links to the area and place more importance on
