busking, informal music and song sessions, the town is filled with colourful displays of dancing, along with tunes, airs, jigs and reels. Although the International Music Festival charges entry for performances the folk festival is mainly free, and embraces the talents of old and young alike and actively encourages visitors to join in the sessions with the ‘stars’ of the show. The Folk Festival also incorporates a guided ‘Pirate and Smugglers’ walk into its programme, which could also be made available year round to visitors. Aberjazz has been running the Fishguard Jazz ’n’ Blues Festival for 8 years now. This year they will be putting on 25 events over the August Bank holiday weekend in 11 venues around Fishguard and Goodwick.

It seems that the Arts are already well established in Fishguard and the surrounding area. In addition to the performing arts (e.g. at Theatr Gwaun), music (e.g. at Fishguard International Music Festival, Aberjazz - Fishguard Jazz ‘n’ Blues Festival and Fishguard Folk Festival) and dance (e.g. at Theatr Gwaun), there is also a plethora of visual arts in the Fishguard hub area. This is mainly due to the fact that many artists chose to locate in North Pembrokeshire because of the quality of light associated with the area. Fishguard Arts Society is a forum for artists from the Fishguard area. The society holds an Artsfest during the year and other events such as the Big Draw and various juxtapositions between Fishguard and St Davids. Fishguard Arts Society is keen to work with other groups and better promote the Arts in Fishguard with exciting exhibitions, festivals and events to bring residents and tourists to the town. Many of the collections of artwork can be found in the West Wales Arts Centre which is located in Fishguard, however Fishguard Arts Society believes a dedicated venue for the Arts is needed in Fishguard. The Arts can certainly be used to Fishguard’s advantage in making people aware of its beautiful seascapes, etc.
