Bonfire procession one of the best yet
A FABULOUS torchlight procession through the streets of Edenbridge to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night on Saturday, 5 November has culminated in the presentation of trophies to the winning entries.
Once again Crockham Hill School scooped the highly prized Whitmore Challenge Cup for the best tableau, which featured a very spooky Haunted House.
The Junior Cup for the best junior tableau was awarded to Four Elms School for Santa Comes to Town, while the Mother Gum Cup for best adult
tableau went to The Swan for Jazz Time at The Swan. The trophies were presented by Edenbridge Bonfire Society president Margaret Brown, who praised the standard of the floats in 2011.
“The tableaux were absolutely fantastic,” she said. “You all did so well. I was so proud. Please keep doing it because without you there would not be a bonfire night.” Mrs Brown also thanked the bonfire society committee for their hard work.
“They do so much, you just do not realise it,” she said.

Amnesty for those unwanted Christmas gifts
THE Salvation Army Trading Company’s charity shop in Oxted is offering people the chance to find a new home for those unwanted Christmas presents under its gift amnesty scheme ‘re:gift’.

New loyalty card is proving to be a big success
THE Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce’s new loyalty card scheme is going from strength to strength with 465 completed cards representing £27,900 worth of business in the latest draw.
Edenbridge Town Council chairman Clive Pearman drew the second winner – Guy Pendred – at the chamber’s meeting in January.
There are now 38
businesses and shops involved and it is hoped the scheme will get bigger and better. “People have been buzzing with the idea and businesses have seen some benefit,” said chamber president Peter Kingham.
Michael Burgum was named as the winner of the chamber’s very first loyalty card prize. Mr Burgum from Edenbridge scooped £50 in vouchers to

be spent at participating shops and businesses in the area.
The draw took place at the Edenbridge Christmas Spectacular in December and the winning card was picked by Mother Goose pantomime star Leslie Grantham.
Customers are being invited to bring in any unwanted presents with the promise that everything will be accepted until the end of February.
All the donations will be either reused or recycled, with profits going towards The Salvation Army’s valuable work. “We have had many donations since Christmas has come and gone and also sold and recycled a great many new and used items,” explained Oxted manager Lajlah Whittaker. “All good for such a worthy charity.”
Customers dropping off unwanted Christmas presents will also be offered one of the store’s innovative new ‘re:ward’ loyalty cards.
The free double-sided card rewards customers each time they spend £5 in the shop or donate their unwanted items using one of the shop’s reusable ‘re:bags’, which cost 99p each.
The Oxted store is also holding a green cross clothing and shoe sale, reducing items to just £1 each. For more information on the re:gift amnesty scheme pop into your local shop or visit

Meanwhile, Sevenoaks District Council will be collecting residents’ real Christmas trees for free throughout January so they can be composted.
