Kid’s clothing agency opens in Edenbridge

CO-FOUNDERS Tracie Metcalf and Sue Carley, since opening their ladies’ dress agency Chic back in March 2011, have now launched Little Chic, this time aiming at the younger generation.

The children’s clothing agency has opened due to popular demand from existing customers and now runs exactly the same way alongside their other business Chic. Little Chic is a children’s clothing agency selling excellent quality, nearly new/designer clothing, shoes, boots and most accessories from buggies, cots and nursery furniture to playpens as well as new items for children 0-10 years. There is also a selection of maternity wear for ladies to buy or sell and a range of gifts for expectant mothers and newborn babies alike.

We are shortly to be outfitters for local primary schools supplying clothing and shoes.

Chic and Little Chic are open to receive any of your excellent quality women’s/children’s designer/high-end High Street items and as your agent, will sell these items on your behalf.

Any clothing that you may not use again that is just too good for charity and you have little or no time to sell on Ebay, do come and see us and let us do the hard work to help you make some money! Please feel free to come and browse our designer ladies’ and children’s clothes at sale prices…all year round!

A 10% discount will be given to any purchases on production of this voucher for the month of January.

Transform that old furniture – upcycle!

Above and right: Some of the items of furniture that has been completely transformed and given a new lease of life at Magnolias in Edenbridge

ABOUT 80 years ago, the world was going through a period of austerity even worse than the one we’re experiencing now, but this was also a time of great creativity. One response was the manufacture of furniture, which was extremely well made, but fitted the pockets of the swelling number of householders and homeowners. It was called utility furniture and was generally made from a wooden frame with solid wood drawer fronts and tops in oak or similar wood, while the drawers and the sides were made from plywood.

Stylish, modern and well made, they were beautifully finished, popular and expressed the Art Deco styles of the time. At Magnolias of Edenbridge we

particularly specialise in taking this style of furniture, restoring it and giving it a modern painted finish, which incorporates the best of both periods. Recycling furniture in this way or “upcycling” (as the trendy magazines like to call it), is such a great way of filling a house with beautiful furniture exactly to your taste, without it costing a fortune. We prepare each piece by taking off the old varnish and wax and doing any repairs or filling necessary. We then undercoat, followed by the different topcoats to achieve whichever finish we require, usually solid block colour or a “shabby chic” finish.

All the paints we use are either Farrow & Ball or Dulux, which we find give the most durable finish. When the furniture has thoroughly dried, we apply a coat of specialist wax, which gives the furniture a finish which will last another 80 years. At Magnolias, we repaint chests of drawers, dressers, tables and can also repaint and re-upholster chairs and beds, in fact, we specialise in French beds. If you have furniture of your own we collect it, colour match or paint it to your taste and then deliver back the finished piece. We have even colour matched to a cushion! The same techniques can be applied to modern pine or indeed any type of furniture, which has a wood finish. Recycling furniture in this way is good for the environment and good for the pocket too. Magnolias of Edenbridge will undertake any job large or small and we offer a free no obligation quote as well as free collection and delivery service.
