A good year for nature reserve
GREEN fingered volunteers descended on the Butterfly Garden at Lingfield Nature Reserves to really get their new year off to a flying start.
The team of about 10 spent New Year’s Day morning pruning and cutting back vegetation in preparation for spring growth.
The nature reserve off Vicarage Road enjoyed a good year in 2011 with visits by Lingfield, Dormansland and Notre Dame Primary Schools. There has been a growing interest in pond dipping, the tree trail and other environmental activities, particularly by children from the primary schools and youth groups.
The reserves’ management committee is planning to organise other activities and has obtained generous funding from Lingfield Marathon to purchase sweep nets for mini-beast hunts and other invertebrate and land based surveys.

Volunteers take a break during the work party on New Yearʼs Day
It is hoping there may be a local entomologist willing to help out on a voluntary basis, who has the appropriate knowledge to guide the volunteers and assist at land based events.
The sessions would either be in school hours or early evenings for the youth groups. To find out more contact Ray Baker at

Tandridge CHRONICLE JANUARY 2012
A CALL has gone out for urgent action to be taken on road markings and signage on the M25 roundabout at Godstone following a number of incidents. Tandridge District Councillor Michael Cooper (Harestone) told a meeting of Surrey County Council’s Tandridge Local Committee that there seemed to be a lack of signage to ensure drivers were in the right lane.
“If you approach from the Caterham direction, signage suggests you use both lanes if using the A22,” he said. “I have personally witnessed cars going through the first part of the junction and cars in the left

hand lane turn in front of cars going south. I have noticed the same thing happening going north as well. People suddenly turn across. I ask you to look at this as a matter of urgency because clearly things are going wrong.”
Cllr Nick Childs (Godstone) said: “I have been cut up several times by people going from one lane to another and it’s quite dangerous.”
The south east area team manager for highways, John Lawlor, said the roundabout’s signage had been an issue for some time and there had been accidents and fisticuffs. He added the matter would be looked at.
