tindlenews.co.uk Christmas spectacular ‘a triumph’
EDENBRIDGE’S Christmas Spectacular has been hailed ‘a triumph’ by Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce president Peter Kingham.
“It was a huge success,” he told a meeting of the chamber shortly after the event.
“I have had nothing but good reports back from all sorts of people from customers to shops.
“One shop thought that a third of all its customers on the day were newcomers. That is exactly what it was all about. “It is something that we can build on and build on.”
The shopping spectacular organised by the chamber featured a huge range of entertainment for all the family including a visit by actor Leslie Grantham and the cast of The Stag’s Mother Goose Christmas pantomime.
Mr Grantham
switched on the Christmas lights then drew the very first winner of the new Eden Valley loyalty card and presented prizes to the winners of the chamber’s Christmas card competition
There was also music by the Edenbridge
Town Band, carol singing, a performance by the Edenbridge School of Dance, a buzzing market, donkeys to pet, Father Christmas in his grotto, children’s rides, a mirror maze, helter skelter, a band and peal of bells at the parish church. Mr Kingham acknowledged all those who helped including Edenbridge Town Council, Sevenoaks District Council and the Great Stone Bridge Trust but paid special tribute to the hard work of main organisers Keith and Jennie Steptoe and their Christmas committee.
“It went way beyond my expectations. It was a spectacular event and it put smiles on many people’s faces,” he said. Mr Steptoe thanked all the businesses that helped to make it such a good day. “It was a fabulous event,” Mr Steptoe said. “It can only get better from here.”

Advertiser’s announcement
Last Chance for maximising business tax relief for equipment
If you are looking to buy equipment of up to £100,000 soon it would be a good idea to do it before the end of March 2012. To be sure of qualifying the equipment must be installed and working by that date. In April 2012 the Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) for businesses will be cut by 75% to £25,000. AIA gives a 100% tax deduction in the year of expenditure. Any expenditure above this limit (there are a few exceptions) will only qualify for tax relief under the normal capital allowances system, which is not nearly so generous. From April there will still be alternative ways of obtaining 100% tax relief in the year of expenditure and claiming capital allowances over a period of years as well. In order to achieve this there needs to be careful planning before the purchase is made. You should always seek professional
advice before taking action as other factors may need to be considered.
